Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2017) – Trey Starks posted his career-best 410ci winged sprint car finish at The Dirt Track at Charlotte and his season-best result with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last Saturday during the final night of the Textron Off Road World Finals.
The marquee event opened on Thursday when Starks guided the Gobrecht Motorsports team to the fourth quickest qualifying time in their group for Friday’s show before he set quick time overall for Saturday’s event.
“Qualifying was definitely good,” he said. “We have that part of the night figured out. We seem to be ok no matter where we go. We just have to make sure we’re better later in the night.”
Starks placed third in a heat race to kick off Friday’s action, which narrowly missed a spot into a dash. It lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the A Main.
“I didn’t get a good start in the heat race and we lost a spot so that put us out of a dash, which is huge,” he said. “Then we flat out didn’t do well in the feature. We knew we had some things to work on.”
The team ended Friday’s main event 23rd, but bounced back on Saturday by winning a heat race to advance into a dash. Unfortunately, the highest number – six – was drawn for the dash inversion and that lined Starks up last in the short race. He finished where he started to line up 12th for the main event.
“I think if we could have started up front we would have been one of the cars to beat,” he said. “Our clean air package is really good. Clean air is everything. We worked our way up to eighth or ninth and then on a couple of late restarts I got shuffled back so we ended up finishing where we started. It wasn’t quite what we wanted, but was better than the night before.”
Starks capped the event with a 12th-place finish.
He and Gobrecht Motorsports will wrap up the season this Friday and Saturday at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., with the USCS Series. Starks finished second during his debut at the track before winning the following night in October 2015.
