Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Nov. 7, 2017) – This season was a rather quiet one for Channin Tankersley, who was focused on business and only able to compete in 20 races.
“I was hurt one year and only got seven races in, otherwise I think this season was the fewest I’ve done in a year,” he said. “We had an ok year. I think a lot of our problem was me not racing enough. Seat time is everything in this sport. We did have some really good runs. We won a race and were in contention in several others.”
Tankersley captured an ASCS Gulf South Region victory on June 16 at Bronco Raceway Park in Cleveland, Texas, to give him at least one win with the series for seven straight seasons. He also produced third-place finishes with the series on May 6 at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, and on May 26 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas.
Tankersley finished eighth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings despite missing multiple events. It marked the fifth straight season and sixth time in the last seven years he has placed in the top 10 of the standings.
Additionally, Tankersley posted a season-best fifth-place result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on June 14 at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., and he recorded an eighth-place finish during his first-ever weekend of racing in Ohio on July 2 at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe.
“I want to thank Bruce Griffith and Kyle Turner Motorsports for the opportunities to race this season,” Tankersley said. “We’re planning on hitting more races and being better prepared next year. We know we want to run a lot, we just don’t know how much.”
