SAPULPA, Okla. (October 26, 2017) Starting off the 44th annual Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals with a fourth-place run with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Blake Hahn returned the following night to post a career-best runner-up finish in Saturday’s feature event aboard the Griffith Truck and Equipment/Lucas Oil No. 52.
“The Devil’s Bowl is one of my favorite tracks, and being able to go in and run like we did, especially with how our last month or so has been, it was really what we needed,” commented Hahn.
Working to fourth in the closing laps of Friday’s feature event, Hahn raced back and forth with Seth Bergman for the final transfer into Saturday’s feature.
“We were sixth and gaining on Seth and Matt [Covington] and they both slipped up the track off turn two and I was able to get a run and after that, Seth raced me hard but we were able to get the spot. That alone just took a load of stress away knowing we were locked in.”
While being locked in was a good way to enter Saturday night, the Friday performance also showed the team made the right call to swap out their JR1 Chassis.
“We’ve been fighting the car for the last month or so with nothing really working. We changed bars, shocks, setup combinations, really just about everything but the Chassis and the seat, so we decided to try the Chassis first. All I can say is what a difference.”
Taking off with the lead in Saturday’s feature event, Hahn stretched his advantage to a straightaway before traffic brought Aaron Reutzel into the mix. Exchanging the top-spot several times, Aaron finally gained the upper hand, and the win, while Hahn was able to hold off Sam Hafertepe, Jr. for second.
“I just messed up in traffic and let Aaron get to me. Once we started racing, I thought I had him covered a few times, but Aaron had it right. After he got away from me, I was focused on hitting my marks and not letting anyone else get around me. I knew I had Sam behind me, so to hold him off at the Devil’s Bowl, I was pretty proud of that.”
With a cold front moving in and taking out the Fall Fling, Hahn will spend the next couple weeks getting ready for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s final run at the Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz. on November 9, 10, and 11.
