NEWTON (May 25, 2010) – Weather hindered “Shake Up” Jacob Ossenfort’s night on the town, as he planned to compete last Friday evening in Rapid City, South Dakota. “I was disappointed that we were rained out, but you can’t do much about the weather,” the eighteen year old said. With the weather outlook shaping up for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend festivities, so are the Ossenfort Racing team’s chances for an all around action packed weekend, as Jacob and the team prepare for four nights of racing across the state of South Dakota.
Jacob will start off the weekend on Friday night at Black Hills Speedway. “I am really looking forward to racing the half mile track here. With all of the rain we’ve received, the track should be lightning fast,” he had to say of his hometown track. “It always feels good to race at home in front of your fans. Last weekend we expected a big crowd; hopefully everyone will come out and support us this Friday as well.”
Saturday will mark day two as the Ossenfort Racing team makes their way to Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota, for the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) event. “We raced this race last year with our 360. We were severely out motored against the 410 guys, but we still managed to get a tenth place finish,” Jacob said of the 2009 event. Saturday’s race in Huron will only be Jacob’s fifth time in his Don Ott powered Knology #99J Maxim Chassis. “He’s just one of those no nonsense type of guys that you enjoy racing for,” he said of Orville Chenoweth, promoter at Dakota State Fair Speedway. “The fans in Huron only get to see Sprint Cars there once or twice a year, so there is usually a big crowd and they’re always really into it. I love racing in Huron.”
Closing the weekend with days three and four Jacob and the team will make their way back to Huset’s Speedway , near Brandon , South Dakota , for another NOSA event. “I was really happy with the first time we ran at Huset’s, a couple of weeks ago, but I know that I can qualify better this round. When you can qualify up front it makes the rest of the night a lot easier. With all of the local 410 drivers and the NOSA Sprints there, it should a good field of cars.” Monday will close the weekend with another regular night of points at Huset’s.
When questioned about all of the traveling involved with the upcoming weekend Jacob answered, “The drive home gets really late for dad, but I think he’s getting used to it. Racing four days in a row is going to be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Cheering Jacob on this weekend shouldn’t be a task with four nights to choose from. Look for Jacob at Black Hills Speedway on Friday, at Dakota State Fair Speedway on Saturday in Huron and at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Monday.
