26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (October 18th, 2017) – Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park was another night of first for Clay Sprau, who entered the event with a 128-point lead in the Power 600 Series rookie of the year standings with four races left in the season.
“Our night started with a good pill draw that lined us up on the pole for heat three,” said Sprau. “In hot laps, the car wasn’t very good, so we made quite a few changes to prepare for the heat. From the start of the heat race, the car felt great and I led the heat flag to flag for my first heat race win.”
Sprau’s win earned him enough points to make the six-car invert lining him up on the outside of the front row for the twenty-five lap feature.
“The car felt really good in the heat, so we made minor adjustments to prepare for the main,” explained Sprau. “The car felt good the first couple of laps but lacked a little grip in the center of the corner. I ran second for the first portion of the race until dropping back to third. At about halfway, I had to deal with lap traffic, which I’ve never really had to do before, but I picked them off one at a time until the end.”
Sprau now has four top fives and eight top tens to go along with his first podium finish of the season.
Next up for Sprau is a return to Non-Wing action on Saturday for Canyon Speedway Park’s Race for the Cure.
Clay Sprau would like to thank K Corp, Resolute Performance Contracting, Paint by Steve, and The Race Shack for their continued support.
