Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Austen Wheatley will wrap up the 2017 season this weekend when he tackles the 24th annual Trophy Cup.
Wheatley is piloting a sprint car for Willie Kahne during the marquee event at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., Thursday through Saturday.
“I’ve gone to his shop a couple of times to chat and get fitted,” Wheatley said. “It’s ready to go. Willie is pretty knowledgeable and I think we’ll have a productive weekend. I think we’ll get better every night, but I think right out of the gate we’ll be pretty good.”
Wheatley’s best result at the track came in 2012 when he placed eighth during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event.
“I enjoy racing there,” he said. “I’m pretty familiar with it. It’s a lot easier to go into the big races when you’re familiar with the track. My goal is to go as fast as possible and have the best finish as possible.”
Wheatley has already produced a stout season as he has earned a career-best three feature victories.
