[b PENNGROVE, CA (5-24-10)] – After months of racing a busy schedule that spans California, Alissa Geving will continue to race close to home once again this coming weekend with three big events in the North Bay region featuring the Golden State Challenge Series sprint cars in the coming holiday weekend.
"It's always nice to race so close to home," said Geving, who returned to her home track of Petaluma Speedway last Saturday night to get some track time in preparation for the coming weekend. "The Golden State Challenge Series is very competitive and it requires a lot of traveling each week. I'm looking forward to racing just a few minutes away for another weekend."
This coming Friday night, Geving returns to the fast Petaluma 3/8 mile track at the Golden State Challenge Series converges on the Sonoma Marin County Fairgrounds. The event is the 10th segment of the King of California Series and the second time this year that the tour comes to Petaluma.
"It's always great to come back to my home town track," said Geving. "Last Saturday we ran in the weekly all pro series and I wasn't as competitive as I would have liked to be. Hopefully we can come back there with the 410 and have a good showing for the local fans."
Last weekend Geving competed in two nights of racing. On Friday night she raced in round nine of the Golden State Challenge Series at Giant Chevrolet Speedway in Tulare. In this event Geving qualified 10th in the field with a 13:364. She finished fourth in her heat race and started 10th in the A-feature. Early in the event she was advancing in the field when she was involved in an accident while avoiding a spinning car. Geving finished the evening in 20th and advanced one position in the point standings to 6th place.
On Friday night the Chicko Motorsports team returned to the Petaluma All Pro series with a 360 powered motor in the #3x Maxim. In this event Geving drove from third place to win her heat race. She then drove from 11th to 8th place in the feature event.
Following the Golden State Challenge Series event on Friday night, Geving heads over the mountainside to the scenic Napa Valley as the GSC tour competes on Californias' most intimidating track, the historic Calistoga Speedway half mile on the Napa County Fairgrounds.
This event marks the only event of the year for the GSC tour at Calistoga Speedway. Despite it's history and records of speed, Calistoga is a favorite race track for Geving who has had a share of strong performances there in the past.
"I'm not going lie and say that Calistoga doesn't scare me a bit, it does and it should scare every driver a little bit," said Geving. "It's fast and it's fun but at the same time you have to be on top of your game because the slightest mistake can result in serious damage or injury. It's a track you really have to respect and work together with your fellow drivers. I'm ready for it."
