Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2017) – Trey Starks is heading into one of the biggest weekends of the season with confidence.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver will compete this Thursday through Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the $50,000-to-win National Open with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“It’s definitely the biggest weekend of the season out here,” he said. “The National Open has always been cool and special to me. It was the first race I ran in Central Pennsylvania a few years ago and we did pretty well my first time. It’s a race I look forward to and now having more experience I’m excited to see how we can perform.”

Starks is coming off a busy three-race weekend that began a week ago Thursday at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa. He qualified fifth quickest and placed fifth in a heat race before rallying from 14th to sixth in the main event.

“We raced pretty good and were happy with our finish,” he said. “I tried to make smart decisions and pick them off one by one. There were a few wrecks that gained us two or three spots, but we were solid and I didn’t make a ton of mistakes.”

He invaded Williams Grove Speedway the following night for the final tune-up prior to the National Open. Starks timed in fourth quickest before ending third in a heat race, which started him seventh in the A Main.

“We dropped one position in the heat race, which put us out of the dash since the used the Outlaws format,” he said. “We started seventh and got into another car, who had gotten into the inside guardrail to start the race. We bent the front axle so our car wasn’t handling well. I knew we had damaged something so we tried to limp it home.”

Starks capped the night with a 14th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway for the Dirt Classic. Starks qualified 20th quickest before placing third and second, respectively, in twin heat races. That earned enough points to lock into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We were rolling pretty good on the start,” he said. “Toward the end we fell off. It felt like every move we made on the race track seemed to be the wrong one. You’d get a good move going and then something would happen and we’d lose a few spots. We had a good car, but the way the circumstances played it out wasn’t in our favor.”

Starks ended with a 15th-place finish.
