Podium Run Highlights Hockett/McMillin Weekend For Blake Hahn

SAPULPA, Okla. (September 28, 2017) Highlighting the weekend with a third-place finish during Friday’s preliminary A-Feature at the 7th annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway, Blake Hahn gave his overall weekend a B+.

“This trip to Lucas Oil Speedway is probably the best I have ever felt racing there,” commented Hahn. “The car was good all three nights, just made a mistake on Thursday and had to deal with another driver who was more interested in overdriving his car than racing on Saturday.”

Starting off Thursday with a fourth-place finish in his Heat, that was enough to move the Lucas Oil/Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 into a Qualifier where Hahn would cross second. Combined Passing Points put Blake sixth on the grid.

Battling with Sammy Swindell and Wayne Johnson for third, Hahn would end up facing the wrong way after trying to squeeze under Sammy through turns one and two.

“That was my fault. We both went to the bottom, and I just carried too much speed in and had to stab the brakes. Just part of it.”

Restarting at the tail, with 19 laps to go, Blake came back to finish 11th.

Starting off Friday with a Heat Race win, followed by a third in the Qualifier, Blake improved his starting position in the A-Feature to fourth and again, found himself racing with Sammy with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. thrown into the mix as well.

“I really enjoyed racing with the Sam and Sammy. They race you hard, but they race you clean and I really felt like we had a car that was capable of winning, we just got caught in some traffic, but to come away third, that’s the best I’ve ever felt at that track and really, we didn’t change the car at all from Thursday, so that really let us know we had something to work with on Saturday.”

Locking into Saturday’s $10,000 to win event, Blake would end up eighth when all was said and done.

“We were good, but just needed a little more drive through the middle of the corner. As the race went on, and we lost some of the fuel load, the car actually got better, but it seemed like every time I would get a run, I had to deal with a driver who was more interested in seeing how many times he could chop and block me, so that really killed my momentum, but otherwise, I was happy with the whole weekend.”

Up next for the Hahn Racing Team is the Fall Brawl at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. During last year’s visit to the high-banked oval, Blake finished eighth.

“I enjoy racing at I-80. Joe and his crew do a great job with the facility, and you feel welcomed, but I will say this, you’d better have everything checked and ready when you roll into I-80 because that place will get your attention in a hurry.”
