Taylor Earns El Paso County Raceway Track Championship

Inside Line Promotions – CALHAN, Colo. (Sept. 26, 2017) – Zac Taylor can add “track champion” to his resume. The teen earned his first ever title at El Paso County Raceway recently aboard his family owned 305ci winged sprint car.

“The races were cancelled last Saturday because of weather,” he said. “I would have liked to have raced for the championship, but we earned this with how consistent and fast we’ve been all year. We won three in a row leading up to that.

“I want to thank Steve Davis, Andrew Kaiser, Cody Kaiser, Tim Kaiser and Loretta Kaiser for all their help on the car. I would like to thank the fans that support my racing, too.”

Taylor has the opportunity to win two more championships this weekend. He will compete Friday and Saturday at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo., where the Blood Sweat and Tears Racing Series and Colorado Alliance Tour championships are on the line.

“If I win it takes care of itself,” he said. “Otherwise I just have to finish ahead of Lonnie Cox to win the championships. I’ve never won a championship let alone three in one year.”

Taylor recently wrapped up his season driving Todd Henry’s midget with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association. He led a lot of the race on Sept. 16 at I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo., before a late-race incident relegated him to a fifth-place finish. Taylor finished fourth in the RMMRA championship standings.

“It was a 33-lap memorial race and I led 20 laps,” he said. “The car was really hooked up and I pulled the wheels off the ground and when it came down it bent something in the front and I fell back to fifth. But it was a great year and we learned a lot and I got better every time out. I can’t thank Todd Henry enough for the opportunity.”

Besides the upcoming weekend racing, Taylor plans to drop a 360ci engine in his sprint car to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at El Paso County Raceway Oct. 6-7 for the Fall Nationals.

“I’m really excited to battle with the best 360 drivers in the country at my home track,” he said.
