Knoxville Raceway’s Three-Day World of Outlaws Hall of Fame Classic Includes Special Inverted Event

Knoxville, IA—May 19, 2010—Hall of Famers Steve Kinser, Jac Haudenschild and Sammy Swindell will lead the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series into the historic three-night Hall of Fame Classic at Knoxville Raceway on June 3-5.

The three full nights of racing in the Sprint Car Capital of the World includes Thursday and Saturday complete World of Outlaws programs.

Everything turns on its head for Friday night’s event. The race will feature an inverted lineup from the finish of the opener on Thursday, with the specific field realignment procedures to be announced closer to race day to keep competitors on their toes.

The Top-20 finishers from the opener will automatically qualify for the special feature on Friday night, with the final four spots being filled by either one or two Last Chance Showdowns depending on the car count. Each night will pay $10,000 to the winner, with the Thursday opener and Saturday finale being full World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point events. The inverted race on Friday will award a flat 75 points in the World of Outlaws championship standings to all competitors.

With drivers having already come from the 18th and 24th starting spot to win with the World of Outlaws this season, along with the implementation of double file restarts and the addition of Goodyear Tires, the inverted feature on Friday, June 4 looks to be one of the most thrilling races of the season, as the fastest cars will start at the tail.

“We are very excited to be part of the Hall of Fame Classic this season,” said Carlton Reimers, World of Outlaws Series Director. “For the drivers to be part of this event is pretty special, especially the ones that are already in the Hall of Fame, as well as the ones that will be enshrined down the road.”

The World of Outlaws raced twice at Knoxville last season with four-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz and Terry McCarl picking up wins. Schatz, a four-time Knoxville Nationals champion, has won five of the past nine races the World of Outlaws contested at Knoxville over the past four seasons.

The World of Outlaws competed at Knoxville Raceway for the first time in 1979 and raced at the famed half-mile every year since, with 18 different drivers visiting Victory Lane during that span. Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion and a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, leads the way with 22 A-Feature wins with the series at the track and a total of 58 overall triumphs at the track, which places him third on Knoxville’s all-time win list.

On Thursday, June 3, the World of Outlaws will be joined by 305 Sprints, while on Friday, June 4, the Masters Classic will be on the track, and the weekend will wrap up with the Knoxville 360’s joining the series on Saturday night.
