Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2017) – Trey Starks had a fast sprint car last weekend during the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway.

Starks and the Gobrecht Motorsports team opened the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader on Friday by qualifying second quickest in their group. Starks then placed fifth in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. He won the consolation race to transfer into the back of the main event.

Starks then powered from 21st to a 15th-place result.

He returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday for the $50,000-to-win event finale. Starks qualified second quickest out of more than 30 competitors in his group before advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the 16th starting position for the A Main.

“We had a good run and passed some cars,” he said. “Through the first half we were rolling really good. On that red at the midpoint of the race we tweaked it a little and fell off a bit during the second half.”

Starks had driven into the top 10 before the mandatory mid-race caution. He battled for a top 10 for the remainder of the race before ending the night with a 12th-place finish.

“With a 65-car field and 50 cars that could win the race it’s nice to know you’re in the top portion of those cars,” he said. “It was a really unique format and a cool event. That was like a Knoxville Nationals and Kings Royal combined format. It was pretty cool. It’s another big race for years to come.”

Starks also drove his family owned sprint car last Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series show.

“We had some ignition problems in hot laps and qualifying,” he said. “That put us last in everything. We were behind all night, but we showed some pretty good speed in the main event. The track was a bit narrow so I wished we had a decent qualifying lap, but that’s how it goes.”

Starks qualified 24th quickest and ended eighth in a heat race before he maneuvered from 24th to 17th in the main event.

Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports will compete this Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., and Sunday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., with the All Stars. Starks scored his first career All Stars win at Bedford Speedway earlier this season.
