Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2017) – Sammy Swindell made a huge leap forward last weekend during the Tuscarora 50 with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

Swindell, who piloted a sprint car for Coldren Motorsports during the doubleheader at Port Royal Speedway, opened the action on Friday by qualifying eighth quickest in his group. He advanced from eighth to sixth place in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem ended his night early.

“We had some issues along the way,” he said. “On the first night the car wasn’t as good as we wanted. We struggled a bit with that. We weren’t far off, but didn’t have the speed or maneuverability. We came back the next day and made a plan to make some changes. Everything that we did was better. We changed the motor and it was better suited for that track, too. We came out and ran a good lap in qualifying.”

Swindell kicked off the $50,000-to-win finale by qualifying fifth quickest in his group, which featured more than 30 competitors.

“The way the car drove and the way it felt, what I could do, it was huge,” he said. “It was really good to put it all together, even though it wound up being short-lived because we didn’t even get off the start in the heat race.”

Swindell lined up third in a heat race in which he needed to finish in the top three to lock into the A Main. However, contact with a fellow competitor on the start knocked the front end out and another driver ran into the back of Swindell’s race car, which bent the rear axle.

“The guys did a good job of getting the car back together in that amount of time,” he said. “They worked real hard and got something for me to go out there with.”

Swindell charged from 15th to fourth place in the C Main, which was two positions shy of a transfer into the back of the B Main.
