Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 11, 2017) – An evening that began as promising eventually evolved into a night of frustration for Zane Hendricks last Saturday at I-30 Speedway.

The POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series event opened with a fourth-place finish in his heat race after starting sixth, placing him sixth in points after the heats. Fortune smiled upon Hendricks when an inversion of six was drawn, placing him on the pole for the 25-lap main event.

“Our car was pretty good in the heat, but it could have been better,” he said. “We kind of over-compensated in the changes we made before the heat. But it turned out well after the inversion draw.”

Hendricks led the first several laps of the feature.

“I was leading and then I made a bit of a mistake and second place got by me,” he said. “We ran there for a couple of laps when I think I hit a hole that kind of upset the car. A car got by me for second and then another car stuck his nose in there. We made contact and I spun out.

“I went to the back and passed a few cars. But then I spun my own self out. I got in a little hot and made contact with a guy’s bumper so I went to the back again with about 10 laps to go I think.”

Hendricks again moved forward from the back before he was caught up in a race-ending crash.

“I restarted in back again and passed a couple more cars,” he said. “Then there were four cars in front of me kind of bunched together. With about five laps to go one of them got sideways and the rest kind of piled up. It was right in front of me and I couldn’t avoid it. It bent a couple of radius rods and the steering was messed up so I pulled in. It was kind of a frustrating night. We definitely had a car to win. Things just didn’t go our way.”

Hendricks, who was credited with a 13th-place finish, will return to action this Friday at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla., and Saturday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series.
