Ace McCarthy Holds on for First POWRi West Win at Hammer Hill

Little Rock, Arkansas (September 9th, 2017)- For this years’ second scheduled race at I-30 Speedway, The Lucas Oil POWRi West Midget League had 15 cars sign in for action. The Saldana Racing Products Heat 1, was won by the 28M of Ace McCarthy. The Smith Titanium Heat 2 would be won by the 00 of Grady Chandler. With a charge from 5th to 1st in his heat, Grady Chandler would be the Integrity Customs of Tulsa High Point Winner.

Chandler would roll a 6, inverting the first 3 starting rows of the A-Feature. With the invert, the starting row would be the 27 of Zane Hendricks, and to his outside would be the 52 of Blake Hahn.

During A-Feature action, there was a caution on lap 1 for the 44 of Wesley Smith and the 41 of Wally Henson. The 44 rejoined the field, but unfortunately for the 41 his night was done. The officials would line them back up and try again. On the restart, the fourth starting 28M of Ace McCarthy quickly jumped to the front. On Lap 9, the yellow would fly for the 27 of Zane Hendricks in turn one. Hendricks would refire and tag the back.

McCarthy would lead the field back to green, with Grady Chandler and Derek Hagar in tow. On lap 13, the caution would come out for the 27 in turns 1 and 2. After Hendricks refired, McCarthy would bring them back to green. During a stretch of green lap racing, Wesley Smith, who was caught in the caution on lap 1, made his way up to 3rd, and Kory Schudy on the hunt for the Hard Charger Award, would make his way up to 4th after starting 9th.

One final caution would come out on lap 20 for the 82M of Steven Shebester in turn 3, he would be able to continue. For the final restart, McCarthy would lead the field back to green. During the last 5 laps, the 00 of Grady Chandler, would try to get underneath Ace McCarthy for the number one spot, but it would be McCarthy taking the checkers with Grady Chandler placing 2nd, Wesley Smith in 3rd, Kory Schudy would take 4th and Matt Moore would round out the top 5.
