26 Promotions – Las Cruces, NM – (September 5th, 2017) – Spencer Hill and the Spencer Hill Racing team made their way south, with the Micro Sprint in tow, this weekend for the big Labor Day Fling two day show at Southern New Mexico Speedway.

Hill’s Saturday night got underway with heat race action, where he would start from the outside of the second row. Hill quickly charged into second and began chasing down Don Kruse for the lead in the quick eight lap race.

“Kruse got out to a decent lead, about three-fourths of a straightaway and I began to chip away at it with Derrik Ortega hot on my heels,” explained Hill. “I caught Kruse but ran out of time and finished second by inches at the line.”

After a random redraw, Hill started the feature from fourth and made heavy contact with Kruse on the opening lap in turn four. Hill returned to the track after a quick stop in the hot pit but had to retire early due to the damage.

“I hate that I got into Don like that so early in the main, especially after knowing how much speed we had,” said Hill. “I saw a hole open and I went for it but it closed and I had nowhere to go and unfortunately it caused me and my guys a lot of work in the hotel parking lot on Sunday morning.”

After getting the front axle, both front shocks, and a radius rod replaced, Hill and his team were back on track for night two of the Labor Day Fling.

Hill started his heat from the outside of the front row and took the lead early from Joshua Huish and would go on to win after holding off a few challenges from Ortega.

Hill lined up on the pole for the start of the feature but was sent to the back of the field after contact with Ortega sent him spinning and the 29 of Don Kruse flipping after trying to avoid Hill and Ortega. On the restart, Hill had to get out of the throttle as Ortega and Huish made contact, from there Hill worked his way back up through the field for a third-place finish.

“It’s a shame I couldn’t give my guys a better finish this weekend because I feel like we definitely had the speed to win both nights,” said Hill. “I was as low as someone can be in turn one, and did what I could but once we made contact there was nothing I could do to save it from going around. I’m just sorry that Don got caught up in that mess. On the restart, I had to really jump out of the throttle when the 35 and 5 got jumbled up in turn one and that set me even further back. The car was loose on the bottom but felt great on the top and I felt like I was definitely catching first and second, just kind of ran out of time. Even though it wasn’t the weekend we had hoped for, I still can’t thank my dad and Jim enough for all of their hard work that they did this weekend. We will bounce back from this.”
