Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Aug. 28, 2017) – Austen Wheatley is prepared for a busy two-week stretch of seven races in nine days along the West Coast.

The Washington State native will pilot his family owned No. 44w with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series three times in his home state this weekend with the Outlaw Energy Showdown on Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger prior to Monday’s race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma.

Wheatley will also compete at Grays Harbor Raceway on Sunday, when he will drive for Doug Rutz during a Summer Thunder Sprint Series event.

“It’s nice going into this weekend with some laps at both tracks this season,” Wheatley said. “Last year we showed up without racing much all year and were competitive. We were fighting for top 10s without any laps so hopefully that means we can do better thanks to the experience we have this year.”

Wheatley has competed a half dozen times at Skagit Speedway this season with a top result of sixth place. He has three top 10s, including two in a row, and has qualified in the top 10 during all three races qualifying has been included in the program this season.

Wheatley has five starts at Grays Harbor Raceway, including a win, a runner-up result and four top 10s. He has also set quick time during qualifying in the two races when he’s qualified.

“When you travel you only hit those tracks once or maybe twice a year,” he said. “All tracks have certain patterns to what they do throughout a night. You can’t bank on it doing something specific when you aren’t there regularly, but the Outlaws are so smart they adapt really quick. If you can have any knowledge before they know it definitely helps.”

This weekend will also mark Wheatley’s first 410ci winged sprint car action of the season and his first World of Outlaws race since earning a career-best fifth-place result during the Gold Cup in September 2016.
