Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Aug. 28, 2017) – Henry Van Dam captured his fifth straight top-five result last Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Van Dam kicked off the night by qualifying third quickest around the 3/8-mile oval before he advanced from third to second place in a heat race.

“I felt like we had good speed in the car,” he said. “We were quickest in hot laps and third quick in qualifying. I tried to move around a bit in the heat race. It was pretty fast around the bottom. I felt like we had a good balance to the car.”

An eight-car inversion lined Van Dam up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“The modifieds are out before us and they don’t run the top,” he said. “They wear the bottom out. You had about two or three laps to make something happen. Then the track was cleaned off and ready to go around the top. The only shot you had of something happening was if the guy in front of you caught lapped cars at inopportune times and that allowed an opportunity.”

That was the circumstance for Van Dam, who raced in sixth place most of the event before a late-race pass yielded a fifth-place finish.

“We went from sixth to fifth with two laps to go,” he said. “We were racing with a lapped car and able to capitalize at the end of the race.”

Van Dam will return to Grays Harbor Raceway this weekend for a Summer Thunder Sprint Series event on Sunday before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series show on Monday.

“I feel like over the last two months we’ve got our car to have a better balance,” he said. “Every week has gotten better and better. If we can keep that same direction going once and we get a good group of cars racing with the track moving around we should have a lot of fun.”
