26 Promotions – Las Cruces, NM – (August 23rd, 2017) –Spencer Hill ended a tough week, that saw his Sprint Car ride end, on a high note on Saturday night. Hill charged his way from fifth to his second win of the year in the Micro division at Southern New Mexico Speedway.
“We both agreed that the results just weren’t there this season and we haven’t grown very much, so this would be a good decision for both of us,” said Hill, regarding the decision to park the 305 Sprint Car for the year. “I wish them the absolute best and I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to wheel for them. It was a great experience and I learned a lot.”
With the family owned 4S Micro Sprint sitting and waiting to go from a rain out the previous week in Show Low, AZ, the decision was made to head down to Las Cruces and run the Micro.
“The track was beautiful all night, even though we were racing some weather closing in,” said Hill. “In the heat race, I started seventh and patiently made my way through the field, breaking into first after about three laps, taking the win.”
After a random draw, Hill would start the feature on the inside of row three.
“On the initial start, the 11t of Theron Flack didn’t go and it stacked up the bottom line pretty bad, dropping me to seventh, stuck three-wide going into turn one,” he explained. “I slid through to fifth and marched my way up through the field pretty quick catching Melissa Gorham after four laps.”
Hill made the pass for the lead in turn two and checked out from there on his way to his second win of the year.
“It felt really good to get back into a car that I was really comfortable with,” he said. “Jim put together a new set up for this weekend to try and I took away some great things from it that we can learn from. Although this week started out with some rough news, the best medication to get my mind straight was to get right back on the track and into victory lane. For that, I have to thank everyone who has stuck with me in this considerable slump of a season. I couldn’t do it without my family, Jim, and all of my supporters that have stuck with us since 2006. Thank you.”
Hill will be back in the Micro over the Labor Day weekend on September 2nd and 3rd at Southern New Mexico Speedway.
