Davis Shoots for ASCS Canyon Three-Peat Saturday at USA

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 10, 2010) – Reigning American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region champion Charles Davis, Jr., of Buckeye, AZ, shoots for a three-peat when the series returns to action atop Tucson’s 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval this Saturday night.

After opening the season sixth behind Dave Darland and company on March 13, “Chargin’ Charles” has since reeled off back-to-back series wins at Canyon Speedway Park on March 27 and then USA Raceway on April 17.

Davis tries for a third consecutive ASCS Canyon win on Saturday aboard the Roush Yates Ford-powered Massey Motorspors No. 50 DRC and 17th series triumph of his career.

Davis has moved back atop the point charts with his pair of wins, just 20 points ahead of Peoria’s Josh Pelkey, who has finished among the top five in all three feature events thus far in 2010.

Two-time series champ Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ, is another dozen points back in third, with Phoenix shoe R.J. Johnson and Gilbert’s Andrew Reinbold rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Canyon points includes Mike Martin (Yuma), Thomas Ogle (Waddell), Seainn Hendricsen (Scottsdale), Stevie Sussex (Laveen) and Ronnie Clark (Tucson).

Saturday's ASCS Canyon Region action at USA Raceway is slated to go green at 6:45 p.m.

The 3/8-mile USA Raceway clay oval is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.
