Inside Line Promotions – WEST FARGO, N.D. (Aug. 21, 2017) – Kerry Madsen posted a pair of podium finishes last weekend in North Dakota with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Madsen and the Muddy sponsored Big Game Motorsports team opened the action on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks by qualifying second quickest. Madsen placed second in a heat race to lock into the dash, in which he finished eighth to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“We dropped back to about 12th early in the A Main before I got into a rhythm,” he said. “We had a good restart and started passing cars. I nearly passed (Brad) Sweet for second at the end. I was really happy with how strong we were at the end of the race.”
Madsen rebounded from the slow start to capture a third-place finish.
The Muddy backed team competed on Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway, where a 17th-place qualifying effort lined Madsen up sixth in a heat race.
“We didn’t draw a good number, the car wasn’t very good and I made terrible lines in qualifying,” he said. “When you put those things together it usually ends in a bad result. You can’t be quick time every night. I wanted to get a good start in my heat. I figured if I could get to fourth that be great to move me into a good position for the main event. I got an awesome start and coming down the back straightaway we were second.”
Madsen rallied from sixth to second place in a heat race to earn a spot in the dash. A sixth-place result started him sixth in the A Main.
“We were really good, but the track was heavy,” he said. “You had to be patient and pass when you could. I tried to put as much pressure on the guy in front and fill the hole quickly if he messed up. There was a lot of grip throughout the track. The last 10 or 15 laps you had to search for lines and we came alive. I was pretty happy to get to second.”
Madsen powered to a runner-up result, which marked his 25th top five of the season and 14th in World of Outlaws competition, which ranks seventh best.
The Muddy sponsored team will return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
