Inside Line Promotions – MANSFIELD, Ohio (Aug. 15, 2017) – Brandon Hanks took one big lesson from his debut at Mansfield Motor Speedway last Saturday.

“I guess I needed to listen better during the drivers meeting,” he said. “I shot myself in the foot from the get-go. I didn’t realize that that series qualified and hot lapped at the same time. I went out there and was hot lapping and everyone else was qualifying. I was searching around the track. I didn’t map out my lap like I needed to. That hurt me right off the bat.”

Hanks qualified seventh quickest in his group to open the finale of the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals, which rained out on Friday. That lined him up seventh in a heat race.

“I started so far back in the heat and needed to make it to third to transfer to the A Main,” he said. “On the initial start everyone went to the bottom and slowed up a lot. I went to the top and hit the cushion, but I lost some positions. It was so wide and took too long to try to make something on the top.”

A 10th-place result in the heat race relegated Hanks to the B Main, in which he maneuvered from 19th to a 12th-place finish.

“We made some headway in the B Main,” he said. “Once I figured out what I needed to do I could make some headway. We made the car better as the night went and I adjusted my line and that made all the difference in the world.”
