Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 15, 2017) – Jack Dover recorded his best finish at the Knoxville Nationals since 2009 last weekend during the 57th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store at Knoxville Raceway.
“In years past we’ve blown motors up or not had motors to even race so it was a decent weekend,” he said. “After the last few weeks of tough luck just finishing the weekend was a win to us.”
Dover made his 410ci winged sprint car season debut on Thursday when he qualified 31st quickest. He then finished where he started – second – in a heat race to lock into the 14th starting position for the main event.
“We were up to around 12th and on the last yellow our tires sealed over and my car didn’t take off,” he said.
Dover held on for a 17th-place result.
He returned to the half-mile oval on Friday for Hard Knox Night, which he began by timing in 21st quickest in his group. He then advanced from seventh to fifth place in a heat race and he maneuvered from 12th to sixth place in a B Main.
“We moved forward every time we were on the track,” he said. “I think the biggest thing is we were down on horsepower. It’s a 20-year old motor. For what it is I think it did alright.”
That lined Dover up 14th in the C Main during Saturday’s finale.
“If you want to make the A Main with those guys you have to run 410s full time,” he said. “It’s a tough deal. We changed some stuff on the car and it got better throughout the week.”
Dover capped the event with a 15th-place finish in the C Main.
