Inside Line Promotions – CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Aug. 8, 2017) – Joe Trenca is hitting the road this weekend to tackle the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals at Mansfield Motor Speedway.
The two-day show on Friday and Saturday will mark the Mucci Motorsports driver’s debut at the oval located in Mansfield, Ohio.
“I’m excited to head over there,” he said. “I watched a couple of races they had this year on video. The track looks really cool. I’m excited to travel and do more racing with the 410.”
Trenca is coming off a pair of 360ci winged sprint car shows in his home state of New York last weekend. The action began on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, where Trenca powered from fourth to second place in a Patriot Sprints Tour heat race to advance into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, the event rained out prior to the A Main.
“We went there with a little different package,” he said. “We’ve always been good, but still lacked something. We were good in hot laps and the heat race. I felt really, really good about it. That’s the best I’ve felt there ever.”
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
“We were third quickest in timed hot laps and the heat race inversion was four so we started second,” he said. “We battled for the lead the first few laps before finishing second.”
The runner-up result earned a spot in the feature redraw. Trenca pulled the No. 11 to start the main event on the inside of the sixth row.
“We were up to seventh or eighth and had a caution,” he said. “My row just never went on the restart. We lost probably five or six spots. That put us back to around 14th. We had a restart a couple of laps later and the row in front of me piled into each other. I had to spin to avoid. That put us in the rear and we drove from the back to 14th. It was just a lot of being in the wrong place at the wrong time that night.”
Trenca capped the night with a 14th-place result.
