Saturday, April 17th, marked the season opener for the MSA sprint cars at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI. The Scott Thiel Motorsports team pulled in and started to prepare the car for the nights action. A whole new set-up went into the car after the guys from Super Shox came to the trailer. It was a completely new feeling for Scotty after he came in from hotlaps, but was confident that that was the best car he has ever driven. " The car was awesome all the way around the track, very stable and controlable."
Scotty started out the night by picking a 22 pill, which set him to start third in the third heat race event. Taking the green, Scotty fell back a couple spots trying to get the the top side of the very dry slick race track but managed to obtain a fifth place finish, and also a 15th place starting spot in the A-Main event. The crew made a few adjustments to the car before the A-main event. The track started to take rubber as the event went on and Scotty became faster and faster every lap. After starting from the 15th position, Thiel picked off car after car, and managed to be in the top 10 after a few laps in. A few cautions were thrown throughout the event, which in the end cut the laps short. In only 18 laps, Scotty came from 15th and managed to collect a 7th place finish for the night. Scotty and the team were a little disapointed that the race was shortened because the car was capable of a top 5. Scotty charged his way through the field and knew with a few more laps it could of been an exciting finish.
Scott Thiel Motorsports would like to put out a special thanks to everyone from Super Shox, along with Jeff and Todd Rhey for the help on the car. STM will be off to Kopellah Speedway this Friday, April 23rd, and back to the Dodge County Fairgrounds on Saturday for the second round action of the MSA sprint car series.
