Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (Aug. 1, 2017) – Zach Blurton wasn’t going to race last weekend. Then his wife, Ally, convinced him to give it a shot.

It paid off in a huge way as Blurton recorded his second 305ci winged sprint car win of the season on Friday at Dodge City Raceway Park.

“While we have been fast all season and have consistently finished in the top five, nothing seems to go our way and frankly I wasn’t having that much fun and didn’t really want to race,” he said. “I have to thank Ally. She convinced me the night before to go.”

Blurton’s night began with a great pill draw, putting him on the pole of his heat, which he won.

“The pill draw is such a big deal in this, to be able to start up front in clean air helps a ton,” he said.

Another good redraw placed Blurton on the inside of the second row for the feature event. Reigning track champion Taylor Velasquez grabbed the lead from his outside second row starting spot at the waving of the green flag.
“I ran third the first couple of laps and got into second on Lap 3,” Blurton said. “Taylor was probably a straightaway ahead and my car still felt a little free. I started to search around on the track and I found a little rubber developing on the bottom.”

While Velasquez rim-rode around the top, Blurton used the rubber on the bottom to close quickly.

“In about three laps I had caught him and I used a lapper to get around him on the eighth lap,” he said. “He used a lapped car to take the lead a few laps later. Then he went to the bottom, but couldn’t hold it there coming off turn four and I got by him. We had a yellow with about three laps to go and all I had to do was not slip off the bottom.”

Blurton held on for the triumph.

He will race in a pair of United Rebel Sprint Series events this weekend when he will travel to Rush County Speedway in LaCrosse, Kan., on Friday and to Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan., on Saturday. Blurton is currently ranked third in the URSS National standings.

“I’m re-energized and can’t wait to race this weekend,” he said. “LaCrosse is a quarter mile bullring and Belleville is a big half mile. It will be a challenge, but should be a lot of fun.”
