Greenwood, Nebraska (July 20, 2017)—The Prelude to the 7th Annual Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway brought nineteen cars to attendance on a very hot and humid day in east central Nebraska. What does a newly crowned National Sprint Car Hall of Famer do to the rising young guns of the 360ci division? He takes them to school, as it was Altoona, Iowa's, Terry McCarl who survived a wild finish in the A feature from a much faster Cody Ledger. Ledger worked his way through the field after starting 9th to take the lead with 2 laps to go after a mid field starting position. Terry made his move with one togo, in turn 1, to take the lead back and get the win.
Tyler Drueke lead the field to the green flag for 8 laps in heat race #1. But before the heat race even took the green flag, Danny Lasoski, who had mechanical issues in hot laps, took to the track but ended back in the pits. Also, Toby Chapman had mechanical issues that forced him to miss the start of the race. Tyler Drueke, with a great start, rocketed to a 10 car lead on lap 1 over Jack Dover with Shayle Bade in tow. This would be how they would finish with Joey Danley rounding out the top 4.
Cody Ledger and Terry McCarl were on the point for heat race #2. McCarl took the lead from Ledger going down the front stretch. After 2 laps, McCarl kept his lead with Ledger, Seth Brahmer, Tadd Holliman Bobby Becker and Ron Love all in tow. McCarl’s lead, midway through, kept him at a half a straightaway lead over Ledger. McCarl would eventually take the win followed by Leger, Brahmer, Holliman and Bobby Becker rounding out the top 5..
Stu Snyder and Don Droud, Jr. had the front row for heat race #3 with current points leader, Ryan Roberts, starting in 4th. Snyder kept his lead with a battle ensuing between Droud and Roberts for 2nd. Roberts pulled a slider on Droud in turn 2, on lap 3, to take the second spot. Snyder’s 8 car lead, midway through, left clean air for Roberts who began his hunt for 1st. A great battle for 3rd was taking place between Jordan Boston and Droud. Stu Snyder was able to hang on for the win followed by Roberts, Droud, Boston, and Ryan Bickett.
Terry McCarl was your Saldana Products pole sitter for the evening’s 25 lap A feature with Seth Brahmer on his outside. McCarl got a good start but Seth Brahmer made a move in turn 2 but he couldn’t hold on. Tyler Drueke had moved up 4 positions from 11th to 7th in just 2 laps. McCarl had gained a half a straightaway lead over Brahmer in turn was getting heat from 3rd running Ryan Roberts. Danny Lasoski had moved up to 9th from starting 18th in 7 laps but it was Cody Ledger making moves to move up to 5th. As the laps were counting down, Lasoski and Ledger were on the move lap after lap picking off cars as now Lasoski had moved to 4th and Ledger had taken the lead with two to go. On the last lap, Ledger had the lead but McCarl made a move in turn one to take it back over and McCarl went on to take the $2000 home with him and win the Prelude to the Silver Dollar Nationals.
