On a race day with temperatures touching 98 and a heat index of 101, the racing action was just as hot as the final 2 features had last lap passes to end an exciting night of racing courtesy of Motor Parts Central and Central Automotive Machine.
The big shootout featuring the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints vs. the Midwest Sprint Touring series featuring the Keizer Wheels 360 Sprint Cars saw Jody Rosenboom and Seth Brahmer jump into the top 2 spots from the starter stand. Working the low line of the dried out surface, Rosenboom continue on the point. Meanwhile, Nebraska’s Jordan Boston and Cody Ledger found the remnants of the cushion and hammered their way past a number of cars to challenge for the top spot. Ledger, who was coming off a victory last week, was particularly impressive and able to pull to within a couple of car lengths of Brahmer. After a daring pass of Brahmer, Ledger set his sights on Rosenboom. After following Rosenboom low through 1 and 2 a slip up the track gave Ledger the inches he needed to take the win by a couple of tenths of a second over Jody Rosenboom and Seth Brahmer. Jordan Boston came from 8th to finish fourth. Greg Bakker and track point leader Cody Hansen both earned hard charger honors with by advancing 8 positions.
The SignMasters Modified feature immediately proceeded the Sprint Cars, and set a high bar with Jacob Anson executing a perfect slide job under race long leader Jason “Speed” Schneiders. Schneider’s, whose J&J Fitting #44 modified was fast all night, and all season, dominated the opening laps of the feature jumping to an early lead from his sixth place starting spot. Meanwhile Anson, who started seventh, was slowly working through the field, and took advantage of a caution flag to position himself 2nd. As the laps wound down, Anson got a strong run off of turn 2 on the final lap and slid low under Schneider’s who was committed to the top line. Anson took the victory by .09 over Schneider’s and point leader Bob Moore finished 3rd.
In the J&J Fitting Stock Cars it was Greg Tayler who came from the 4th row to land in the top spot. Taylor, who has been slowly gaining in the point standings, was able to work past a very fast Aaron Cain who finished 2nd, and hard charger Max Hoffer finally returned to action and promptly put himself on the podium.
The Schaeffer Oil Sport Modifieds were saw top honors taken by Rusty Montagne. Montagne took his beautiful white and pink modified to the top side and was able to pass a number of cars to control the feature. Point leader Todd Boulware, debuting a new car design, came from tenth to finish second and Vermillion’s Karl Brewer rounded out the top 3.
The IMCA Hobby Stock division is becoming a regular family affair at Park Jefferson, as cousins Andy Hoffman and Craig Clift continue to share the prize money and trophies at the top of the division. This week, is was Hoffman’s white number 8 coming out on the top spot. He won over Clift’s Stephan Welding sponsored number 77 and the veteran Paul Menard.
The Fox 620 Sport Compacts had their usual share of drama which featured and altercation with Tyler Thompson and Dereck Boggs. Thompson, who just returned from an IMCA suspension, found himself facing a black flag for his involvement in the altercation. Meanwhile, it was David Bates who was the recipient of the misfortune who claimed the victory with Luke Jackson running second.
The IMCA RACESaver Sprints saw “The Combine” Dusty Ballenger take the top spot over previous feature winners Casey Abbas and Colin Smith. Abbas who has figured out the perfect setup for Park, was able to challenge Ballenger multiple times but in the end Ballenger’s experience was too much to overcome.
Park Jefferson is dark this Saturday night but will return to action on July 29th for Liberty National Banks $5 night with adult tickets only $5 and children and senior tickets just $1.
