Inside Line Promotions – OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (July 11, 2017) – Zane Hendricks overcame a myriad of problems last weekend in his micro sprint to cap the weekend by charging to a top-10 result.
Hendricks opened the weekend on Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., where he raced in the Winged ‘A’ Class division.
“Friday was a last-minute thing,” he said. “We had a lot of problems. We couldn’t get the car to handle and fought engine issues in the heat race.”
Hendricks finished where he started – seventh – in a heat race before he ended 21st in the main event.
The team rebounded on Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway, where Hendricks advanced from eighth to sixth place in a Winged ‘A’ Class heat race.
“We changed some stuff on Saturday,” he said. “It was a little better in the heat race, but we threw a huge change at the setup for the feature.”
The change worked as Hendricks powered from 18th to a ninth-place finish, which marked his fifth top 10 of the season.
“The first 10 laps or so were hectic,” he said. “I went back a few spots and got trapped behind some slower cars that were three or four wide. Then I found a really good line the last five or six laps and passed a bunch of cars. I just needed another caution or to find the line sooner.
“We started off rough, but we finished decent. We’re headed in the right direction.”
Hendricks will return to midget competition this Friday and Saturday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets Series and POWRi Lucas Oil West Midgets Series.
“We’ve raced once at Valley Speedway,” he said. “We won the heat and were running sixth or seventh when two cars crashed in front of me and I had nowhere to go. We were really fast and running toward the front at the time so I’m excited to get back there.”
Hendricks posted a career-best fourth-place finish with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midgets Series during his most recent midget race.
