Inside Line Promotions – CRANDALL, Texas (July 5, 2017) – Zane Hendricks earned his career-best result with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midgets Series last Friday to advance into seventh place in the championship standings.

Hendricks opened the show at RPM Speedway by finishing where he started – fourth – in an eventful heat race.

“I was up to second and then a driver tried to slide me,” he said. “They hit me and knocked me over the cushion. I got passed by a couple of cars. The track was heavy and hard to pass on, but we were able to get back to fourth.”

That lined Hendricks up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“The first two starts were hectic,” he said. “Everybody went into the corner a little hot and slid up the track. I passed four or five cars in the first corner. They had a caution so we got put back. The same thing happened on the next start and we went a couple of laps. I was up to third when we had a caution, but I was put back to fourth or fifth for the restart. I got back by those cars and started to catch the top two.”

Hendricks advanced into third place when he began experiencing a brake problem.

“I got over the cushion and bounced off the wall,” he said. “The leaders got away. A little bit later I got into the wall again and broke my Jacob’s Ladder with five or six laps to go. I had to slow down a lot because the car handling was really bad.”

Hendricks held on for a fourth-place finish, which marked his third top five of the season.

“It was great,” he said. “We finally showed the speed we’ve had all season.”

Saturday’s POWRi show at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, rained out.

Hendricks is scheduled to compete in his micro sprint this Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Okla.
