CG Motorsports – Glenpool, Ok. (June 28, 2017) – Matt Covington came away with three solid top-ten finishes during Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. Covington earned a 7th, 8th, and 6th place finishes to close out a respectable weekend and first stop of the ASCS National Tour Northwest Swing.
Matt started off the first night on Thursday with a 2nd place heat effort followed by another 2nd place run in the qualifier. The results started Covington 10th in the A-main. With a good handling race car Matt was able to advance from 10th to 7th in the A-main.
"We had a good night on Thursday,” Stated Matt. “We survived and ran well early in the heats and qualifiers to make the main. In the feature, I was able to pick off a couple cars and come home with a solid top-10 to start the weekend off on a good note.”
Second night of action for Covington was a little tougher. After losing some passing points and a spot in the heat and qualifiers, Covington would make the main but have to start 14th. Matt would manage to drive the A-Rock Materials/Triple X chassis up into the top-10 and come home with another solid run and 8th place effort.
The track was very different on Friday from Thursday,” he said. “We had to start further back but was able to salvage another good night and with the 8th place results were able to gain a lock-in for Saturday nights finale and a 7th place starting position.
Saturday saw Covington earn his best Dirt Cup results to date and come home 6th after starting 7th. The finished extended his streak to nine straight top-10 finishes.
“I’m feeling good about our Dirt Cup results,” stated Matt. “I have not run well at Skagit in years past and defiantly a track that I had trouble getting comfortable or getting the car and feel I needed to be competitive. Tyler did a great job this last weekend with getting the car good for me where we could be fast and compete all three nights. He has given me good race cars over the last several race weekends and I hope to keep building on that as we hit some big races over the next couple months.”
Matt and team will take on the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington this weekend in hopes of more consistence finishes and chance at a win or podium finish.
