Inside Line Promotions – JOLIET, Ill. (June 28, 2017) – Jason Sides scored a top-five result on Tuesday during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series first race at The Dirt Oval at Route 66 in a dozen years.

Sides kicked off the FVP Outlaw Clay Classic by qualifying fifth quickest. He then won both a heat race and the dash after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him the pole position for the 30-lap main event.

“We led the first few laps, but we weren’t able to hold the bottom lane as well as some other drivers,” he said. “You never want to give away a chance at a win when you start on the pole, but our car wasn’t quite as good as a couple other drivers.”

Sides capped the night with a fifth-place result, which was his sixth top five of the season.

Last weekend’s action began on Friday when Sides made his debut at West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. He qualified 16th quickest and picked up a position to finish fifth in a heat race. He then gained a spot in the World of Outlaws main event to end 12th.

“The sun was bright and it was windy so the track dried out,” he said. “They didn’t have the equipment to work the track. It was a different kind of track. It wasn’t terrible, but could have used some work. It was like a big train race of following each other.”

Sides ventured to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Saturday. He set quick time in his group and won a World of Outlaws heat race to lock into the dash. Unfortunately, the No. 8 was pulled during the dash inversion so he started on the outside of the fourth row.

“The night started out a lot better,” he said. “We were quick time in our set and we won our heat. Then I drew the eight for the dash. After a rain delay the track got wetter and wetter and we didn’t free up enough. We were over on the right front so much. The car was so tight. We should have crashed two or three times. Late in the race I decided to pull in to save it. We just couldn’t get it to rotate around the corners.”

Sides placed seventh in the dash, but faded throughout the main event because of the ill-handling race car. He exited the race early with a 17th-place finish in an effort to avoid being involved in a crash.

Sides will return to action this Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the Clash at the Creek before competing at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D., on Saturday with the World of Outlaws.
