Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (June 20, 2017) – Joe Trenca remains third in the Patriot Sprint Tour American championship standings following a Northeast doubleheader last weekend.
The Mucci Motorsports competitor opened the action on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., where he won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That advanced him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.
“I was really excited,” he said. “We had good speed in hot laps and were good in the heat race. They did a lengthy track prep before the feature. We made a few changes thinking it was going to help. I think we went the wrong way. We just weren’t that good.
“We were battling for fourth for a while. Me and another guy were going at it. With two laps to go a lapped car put me down in an infield tire. I had to get out of the throttle so I lost two positions to finish seventh.”
Trenca’s seventh-place finish was his sixth top 10 of the season.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where Trenca timed in 19th quickest during qualifying.
“We put ourselves in a bad position to start the night,” he said. “In the heat race I was able to maintain speed with the guys in front of me, but there wasn’t much passing.”
Trenca advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race. He started the main event on the outside of the eighth row.
“It was the best we felt all weekend in the feature,” he said. “I was able to maneuverer to the top, bottom, middle and pass cars. We were finally satisfied with the car that it was making some improvements.”
Trenca picked up a handful of positions to post a 12th-place finish.
He will return to action this Saturday at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour. Trenca finished a season-best third during his lone race at the track last year and he placed fifth in 2015.
