Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (June 20, 2017) – Austen Wheatley will venture to his home track this weekend in search of his first career Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup triumph.

Wheatley is slated to drive for Doug Rutz during the 46th edition of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event this Thursday through Saturday at the high-banked oval in Alger, Wash.

“It’s a big show,” Wheatley said. “We’ve shown we have speed. We just have to have a solid night from start to finish. Instead of just starting strong, we need to be consistent throughout each night.”

Wheatley has set quick time during four of his six races this season, but has run into a feast or famine situation during the main events.

“I think we’ve either won or crashed,” he said. “It’s important at Dirt Cup to have consistent results each time out. You just have to push hard every lap and hope you get enough points to put yourself in contention.”

Wheatley enters the event with two feature wins this season, which is his most in a single season. He has competed at Skagit Speedway once this year, but was caught up in an opening-lap crash.

Wheatley recorded his first career win at the track in 2014 and has produced a top-10 result during nine of his last 12 360ci winged sprint car races at the oval. Additionally, he was in contention for his best-ever World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result at Skagit Speedway last September before he was caught up in a crash while running in the top 10 with only a couple of laps remaining.
