Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 19, 2017) – Trey Starks scored his fifth podium finish of the season last Saturday when Gobrecht Motorsports invaded Port Royal Speedway.
“They did the passing points format for the heat races,” he said. “We drew the last pill in the bucket so we started 10th in the final heat. We were pretty good. We passed a lot of cars and gained a lot of points. That was nice to get in the redraw.”
Starks maneuvered from 10th to fifth place at the half-mile oval. That earned enough points to lock into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.
“We drew a good pill,” he said. “We ran a pretty solid main. We were fighting for second the first 10 or so laps. Once everyone got in traffic it got strung out. We got through some lappers with about five laps to go and started running the leaders down, but we needed five or so more laps to be in the hunt for it. It was really nice to get another good run at a Central Pennsylvania track. I’m really enjoying racing at Port Royal more and more. It’s nice to have a fast car there.”
Starks recorded a third-place result to give him three top fives during three races at the track this season.
The weekend began the previous night when Starks made his debut at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa. Starks qualified eighth quickest before he won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the seventh starting position for the main event.
“We weren’t good early, but were coming on late,” he said. “We were running seventh about two thirds of the way through the race when we had a mechanical problem.”
Starks was unable to finish the race and was credited with a 12th-place finish.
