June 16,17 2017 at Central Alberta Raceways, Rimbey, Alberta
This past weekend I attended Central Alberta Raceways, Rimbey, Alberta June 16 to help the 36 Sportsman Sprint team of Chevy Goodhope. I did not race this event due to time restraints of a Friday race and no pit crew so decided to help another team. The track was not in very good race shape on the hot laps. So did not run any heat races. However The track officials worked very hard to get the race surface in better shape. Had a time delay but once they got the track in shape the track surface was VERY good. Chevy Goodhope went out and ran 20 laps green flag race with no cautions and won the event. The race was only 5 mins to run 20 laps. Way to go Central Alberta Raceways officials to get a great race surface and Chevy Goodhope on mastering that great race surface.
On June 17 I was able to get our car to the track and round up 1 pit crew Dan Cornelius. Thanks Dan for helping out along with Chevy Goodhope crew provided some extra help thanks guys. So we ran our first heat starting 3rd and finished 2nd behind Chevy Goodhope. Heat 2 we started 2nd and finished 2nd behind Chevy Goodhope. Our car set up was pretty good and made a couple of changes for the A Main Feature. We started 5th in the feature and finished 4th. Had a really good car and tried to catch #8 Pierre Guyon for 3rd but didn’t quite have enough traction to pass him but ran side by side. I did tag the front straight wall pretty hard but was able to continue with no damage. We ran 18 laps of 20 before a caution came out for a car came to a stop in turn 4. So once we restarted we had green/white/checkered and held onto 4th. Had lots of fun and car was very good. This was the first points race of the Sportsman Sprints Alberta Championship Series. Next race for us is June 24 at Castrol Raceway Nite Thunder 2nd track points event and will be the 2nd points race for the Sportsman Sprints Alberta Championship Series.
