Montpelier, IN - The wait for the return of winged sprints to Montpelier Speedway was over! Saturday, June 17th brought a field of 18 NRA Sprint Invaders and Great Lakes Super Sprints into town. The track was watered and prepped and the drivers were chomping at the bit to get out on it to turn some laps. As the cars were getting ready to qualify, all eyes were fixed to their smart phones looking at their weather apps.
With only a 5% chance of rain, a rain cell formed in the 86 degree, high humidity air...then the skies opened and dumped more water than we needed for the race. Much to everyone's disappointment, Montpelier Speedway Officials pulled the plug on the evening. The staff at Montpelier were great to work with all evening and we look forward to our return visit the last weekend in July.
Waynesfield, OH - The highly anticipated opening of Ohio Speedweed was upon us with the All Star Circuit of Champions and NRA/GLSS 360 Winged Sprints of the bill at Waynesfield Raceway Park. The rain had passed during the night and it was looking as if it was going to be a great night to race. With haulers backed up waiting in line for the pits to open and teams backed up down the road back into the town of Waynesfield, the skies opened up and rained for 15 minutes. It looked like we got the last rain and we were racing...then another rain cell appeared and then a couple more on the radar to the west. It was too much and our second race in a row was rained out.
As disappointed as everyone was to race, we at least were able to celebrate Fathers Day with a cookout at the Campbell Engine Performance shop near Lima, OH.
Our next race will be this Friday, June 23rd at I-96 Speedway and Saturday, June 24th at Thunderbird Speedway.
