Tulsa, OKLA, (June 17, 2017) - Avery Goodman and Grady Mercer score first wins of the 2017 season, while Joshua Gentry, Kevin Bayer, Kayla Ward, and Hank Davis all captilize on repeat victories
It was the Avery Goodman show in the A-Class division, coming from a heat race victory to start on the pole for the 20 lap feature event. Hank Davis, who started fifth, made his way into 2nd on lap 9 to challenge Goodman for the lead, but was unable to complete the pass, settling for a 2nd place finish. Kevin Bayer made his way into third after starting 10th, but had some trouble completing the pass on Davis for 2nd. Kris Carroll was able to hold onto starting position to finish fourth, while Nathan Weida gained one position from his 6th place starting position to finish fifth.
It was a caution filled 15 laps in the Junior Sprint division, with the lead changing hands three times and Joshua Gentry standing tall in the end. Parker Scheulen was off to a good start leading the first 4 laps before a yellow flag flew for Gentry, who was stopped on the race track. Two laps later the red flag flew for a crash that involved five out of 6 of the cars on the track. That shuffled Nico Hoover into the lead, being the only car at the time not involved in the crash, however, During the red flag, his car wouldn't re-fire when the yellow came back out, so he was sent to the tail for making a pass though the pits to re-fire his car. That moved Gentry into the lead. Gentry went on to win the race, while Ryan Timms finished 2nd after the shuffle. Scheulen came back to a third place finish, and Journey Hunt finished fourth. Nico Hoover finished fifth.
After a rocky start to the Restricted A-feature, Grady Mercer was able to get out front and stay there while the battle ensued behind him for the remainder of the 20 lap feature event. Daison Pursley made his way into 2nd place after coming from a 11th place start, but was unable to catch Mercer. Kale Drake made a valiant effort to put his bid in for the lead, but had a hard time getting by Pursley for the opportunity, finishing the race in 3rd. Rees Day Moran gained 3 positions from his 7th place starting position to finish fourth, and Shawn Mahaffey finished fifth, up one position from sixth.
Kevin Bayer put on a show during the Outlaw feature, only leading five of the 20 laps. Bayer took the lead from Kris Carroll, who only led one lap of the feature to drive on to win. Hank Davis was hot on Carroll's trail, but Bayer was able to get by both of them. Davis finished 2nd, while Emilio Hoover made the pass on Alison Slaton during the closing laps to finish 3rd. Shane Hacker gave it a good run, finishing fourth after a tough battle within the top five. Tom Calico was the fifth place finisher, losing two positions to a hard charging Bayer and Davis. Emilio Hoover was disqualified from his third place finish for failing post race inspection, coming up light across the scales after the feature. That disqualification moves fourth, fifth, and 6th place finisher, Alison Slaton into the 5th position. Slaton lost position from her pole starting position, but was able to rally back to the front, leading 6 of the 20 laps of the race. Slaton fell back to fifth after the disqualification of Hoover.
Kayla Ward was the big winner in the Sportsman class, leading 14 laps of the 20 lap feature event. Kayla Ward elected to start at the tail of the field, but was able to rally up to the lead on lap 6. Ward made the pass on Kaimron Schoonover to take the lead on lap 6, and led the remainder of the race. Schoonover lost the position to 2nd place finisher Bobby McIntosh on lap 8. McIntosh worked lap after lap to attempt to catch Ward, who had checked out to a strong lead. McIntosh ran out of laps trying to catch up to Ward, finishing second. Lonnie Frailey finished third, after coming from an 8th place start. Frailey made the pass on Schoonover on lap 15 to take third, whole Ryan Cody lost one position during the race to finish fourth, which shuffled Schoonover into fifth.
Hank Davis made his way into victory lane during the Non-Wing feature event. Davis made the pass on early race leader and pole starter Avery Goodman on lap 9 to lead the remaining 11 laps to win the race. Goodman ended up falling to third after losing 2nd place to Greg Emeterio, Jr on lap 18. Nathan Weida came to a fourth place finish from a 7th place start, while Tim Greene finished fifth, after losing two positions from his 3rd place starting position.
