Inside Line Promotions – FORT MORGAN, Colo. (June 6, 2017) – Zac Taylor made up for a late-race bobble as he went on to score his first career midget win last Saturday at I-76 Speedway.
Taylor, who advanced from third to second place in a heat race, started on the outside of the front row for the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association main event in the Todd Henry owned machine. Taylor quickly grabbed the lead, but he missed his marks on Lap 20 and slid up the track, briefly surrendering the point.
“I was so mad at myself for not hitting my marks,” he said. “I just buckled down and got my concentration back and retook the lead.
“I was ecstatic, but I think Todd was a lot happier. I’m only the second driver to ever win in his car. Keith Rauch drove for Todd and got over 70 wins and is still the guy to beat around here.”
Taylor and the Henry team were guessing somewhat on setup for the feature, but their decisions paid off.
“It was dry slick and the promoter didn’t know what he was going to do so we put a setup on that we had talked about earlier in the day and it worked,” he said. “It was fan appreciation night so there were a lot of people there. Todd’s dad even got to see us win.”
Taylor said the only type of open wheel dirt race car he has not won in yet is a 410ci sprint car, but “hopefully that will come sooner than later.”
Taylor will try to back up his win with another race with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association this Saturday at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo.
