Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (June 5, 2017) – Ray Allen Kulhanek beat the rain and his competitors last Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway to score his second ASCS Gulf South Region win in the last three races.

“We had one shower come through around 5 p.m.,” he said. “We were all watching the radar. We got lucky that we even got to get the night in. Winning made the headache of all the weather a lot more tolerable.”

Kulhanek kicked off the night by winning a heat race.

“We were supposed to start fourth, but ended up getting bumped up to the outside of the front row of the heat race because a car didn’t start,” he said. “We went into turn one and I kept it lit. We got out in the lead and won it.”

That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.

“What are the chances of drawing the pole two races in a row,” he quipped. “I made sure not to spin my tires too much on the start. The guy on the outside also got a good start. We got to turn one and I slid him. I was making nice, easy laps until we got to traffic. We were fighting traffic and I went through most of my tear-offs.”

Kulhanek maintained the lead throughout the feature on the heavy track to earn his third triumph of the season. It also increased his lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings to 136 points.

“The car is working really, really good right now,” he said. “It makes life easier when things go smooth throughout a night and having Lady Luck on your side with redraws.”

Once the race was complete Kulhanek hustled to the pits to load up before a storm hit.

“It came and it poured,” he said. “It hit within five minutes of getting back to the trailer. We were pulling the car in the trailer. We actually got stuck in the pits and had to be pulled out.”

Kulhanek will take this weekend off before resuming competition on June 16 at Bronco Motor Speedway in Cleveland, Texas, and June 17 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
