Grace Period On Wheel Cover Fastening Systems Expires Today (June 1, 2017)

TULSA, Okla. (June 1, 2017) Keeping in line with the current changes in safety protocol seen across Sprint Car racing in 2017, ASCS teams were given a grace period to convert the fastening systems associated with wheel covers on their cars for the 2017 season.

The deadline is Wednesday, June 1, 2017 and applies to all ASCS competition.

Section 9, Article 3 of the ASCS rule book, states:

It is highly recommended that wheel covers have a minimum of 5 mounting points. However, 5 and 3 mounting point wheel covers will be allowed for competition under the following conditions: Starting with the 2017 racing season, wheel covers having a minimum of 5 attachment points may continue to use dzus fasteners. Said dzus fasteners must be made of steel only. Wheel Covers having only 3 attachment points must be bolted-on all three points utilizing a minimum 5/16”, flanged steel bolt and an approved fastening (nut assembly) system. Approved fastening (nut assembly) systems:

Keyser Manufacturing, part #100 7-101

Wehrs Manufacturing Part # (WM377A-312 Aluminum 5/16) (WM377S-312 Steel 5/16)

Triple X Chassis Part # SC-WH-7810 (for a 1” spring) / SC-WH-7820 (for a 1 3/8” spring)

Smith Precision Products Part # MC-516-18

Speedway Motors part # 910-07119

Optional fastening systems that are equal of superior to the above approved system will be readily approved at the sole discretion of ASCS Technical Officials.
