After some much needed rest. And a long Saturday night. Teams started pulling into Gulf Coast Speedway to try again for night number 2. 21 Winged 600's and 6 Restrictor's checked in for Sundays Tommy Wilson Memorial. The track gave the drivers something totally different then Saturday night. On this Sunday, they would try to tighten up cars as the track was great . But a little slick. We would get the heat races in the books. Restrictor heat winner was Caleb Rouser. Winged 600's Heat winners were Heat 1 Trey Burke, Heat 2 Matt McDade & Heat 3 Caleb Martin.
The first feature out would be Restrictor's. Maverick Elkins & Caleb Rouser would set the front row. The green flag would fly. Maverick would jump out to the lead and never look back. A lead from green to checkers.
Next feature out would be the 600's. The Top 4 from Saturday's feature and the Top 4 from Sunday's feature would get to redraw. The redraw would put Trey Burke and Caleb Padgett on the front row. That would set the field for the Tommy Wilson Memorial $500 to Win A-Main. The green flag would drop and Trey would take the lead. He would lead the race all the way up to the last 3 laps. He would get into lapped traffic. Which would allow James McNeil to dive under Trey and take the lead. James would make it stick. And stay in the lead for the rest of the race.
Sunday's Dragon Fly Hard Charger Award goes to Isaiah Garcia. He started 11th and finished 4th. A total of 7 cars.
The Lonestar 600's would like to thank all drivers for the last minute- "hurry up and let's go". The rain was coming. Very fast. Top priority was to be able to get all features in. And get everyone out safely. We did just that. Soon after we finished, it started raining at the track.
Next race is Friday, June 16th at the newly reopened Bronco Motorsports Park. And Saturday, June 17th at Gator Motorplex. Both races will be Non-wing 600's and Restrictor's. Finally, back to our favorite. Non-wing action!
