Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (May 29, 2017) – Austen Wheatley is aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time in his career when he visits Grays Harbor Raceway this Saturday.
Wheatley will drive for Doug Rutz during the Summer Thunder Sprint Series event at the 3/8-mile oval in Elma, Wash., where the duo scored a victory on May 20.
“I’ve always felt good there, but something’s always happened when we’ve been in a good position,” Wheatley said. “You can have all the speed in the world, but if you don’t close the deal it doesn’t matter. It feels good going back to Grays Harbor Raceway knowing we have won there.”
The win was Wheatley’s first at the track and his second of the season, which marks the first time in his career he’s claimed multiple triumphs in the same season. Now he’ll try to add to that achievement during a Summer Thunder Sprint Series race.
“To the eye it doesn’t look like that big of a track, but it races like a big track,” he said. “Keeping up momentum is critical. The turns are very sweeping and you can’t miss the bottom groove.”
Wheatley enters Saturday’s show ranked fourth in the Summer Thunder Sprint Series championship standings – only 16 points out of third place.
