Jason Martin #36
Thursday May 11th Lakeside Speedway Kansas City, KS Heat Race 2nd to 3rd, Feature 16th to 22nd(DNF)
Saturday May 13th Eagle Raceway Eagle, NE Heat Race 8th to 4th, Feature 15th to 5th.
Jason Martin and the BM Motorsports team finished the weekend with another hard charging performance at Eagle Raceway on Saturday. After a drive from 8th to the final transfer of 4th in the heat race, Martin felt confident in the race car his team had provided.
“Man I tell you what, Aaron Allgood and Kaleb Gaines have really given me a fast race car ever since we’ve unloaded in March”, Martin said. Come feature time, the challenge of facing the point average inversion makes it exciting for the fans. “As a driver, I don’t mind the inversion because it makes a guy sit up on the wheel and make thing happen. It is a little frustrating at times, as there might be fast drivers and cars that have had some bad luck a night or two and their average is junk, so they get the advantage of starting up on the front couple rows,” Martin said. Martin pushed his Eagle Chassis and Myers Racing Engine to the limit, getting to the top 5 by lap 18. During the last 5 laps, the fans were treated to a race between the top 5 drivers that nobody would walk away disappointed with. With lap cars coming into play, Jason had methodically worked the bottom of the race track to drive by the 3rd and 4th place drivers and encountered the 2nd place driver slicing it up with a few lap cars. Taking the 2nd position, lap cars again became an issue as two cars running the bottom and the 3rd place driver trying to make the top work, Jason attempted to split the lap cars and ended up stuck in the middle of the race track, unfortunately falling back to 4th by the end of the race. “It was an exciting race, there are some really talented racers here and that pushes me to get better as a driver every night. Making wise decisions is the name of the game in life and behind the wheel it’s the difference from having a chance at winning tonight and running 4th,” Martin said.
The team traveled to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City on Thursday. With the rain amounts that were accumulated in the area the race track was a bit deceiving to a lot of race teams throughout the night. “We knew the track had a bunch of rain, but the heat races and watching the B mains, we kind of felt it was going to continue to slicken off, but it didn’t!” says Jason. “The modifieds went out to run their feature and plowed up the track on the bottom and we didn’t do a very good job as a team recognizing that, we were just too tight in the feature and I burned up the brakes trying to make something happen” said Martin. Martin started the feature in the 16th position after a solid finish of 3rd in the heat race behind the current ASCS national tour national championship contenders. Even though the car was a bit too snug for Jason’s liking, they were able to pass a few cars and fall in line to ride around for the first bit of the race until brake fade set in and Jason decided it was better to park the car and save the equipment for another day. “These races just don’t pay enough more from the last position to the top ten to really worry about staying out there just to make laps,” says Jason on pulling in. “We have to be conservative with our engines and equipment to a point or we won’t be able to race as long as we’d like!”, said Jason.
The BM Motorsports team planned to race 2 events this weekend, but weather has already cancelled the Sprint Series of Nebraska race at Columbus’ US-30 Speedway for Thursday evening. Saturday, the team will compete in the next Nebraska 360 Sprint Series event at Junction Motor Speedway, where the last time Jason and Aaron teamed up to race at this track they had great success and won the event back in May of 2014. “We feel like we have a good handle of this race track, even though they’ve changed the configuration of the track, it doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in our setup. Aaron knows what it takes to get me comfortable in the race car and I am ready to knock off a couple wins, so we’re excited”, Martin said.
