Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 17, 2017) – Trey Starks produced some strong moments last weekend during his World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season debut at Eldora Speedway.
The weekend began on Friday, when Starks guided the Gobrecht Motorsports team to a sixth-place qualifying result. He then placed third in a heat race to miss locking into the dash by only one position. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“The night started really well,” he said. “We showed speed and we were solid. It wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be, but it was a good night.”
Starks battled for a top 10 throughout the main event before posting a 13th-place finish.
The event concluded on Saturday, when Starks timed in 11th quickest during qualifying before ending sixth in a heat race to lock into the 17th starting position in the main event.
“We had a few engine issues; nothing major, but enough to skew our night,” he said. “We were a little off on the engine part. We ended up pulling off about 10 laps into the main because we couldn’t get the motor to run correctly. We’ve since sorted it out and fixed it.”
Starks, who was credited with a 21st-place result, will rejoin the World of Outlaws this week during a tripleheader in Central Pennsylvania. The action kicks off Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash before races on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup.
Starks recorded a career-best 11th-place result at Lincoln Speedway in April during his first of two visits to the track this season. He also netted a career-best sixth-place finish at Williams Grove Speedway in April to highlight two races at the half-mile oval this year.
“We’ve got more laps at Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway this year than we normally do heading into this week of big World of Outlaws races so that should help us,” he said. “Hopefully we can lay down a good qualifying lap each night to set ourselves up for success.”
