Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (May 15, 2017) – Zane Lawrence took advantage of the off weekend with the ASCS Gulf South Region to compete with the NCRA Sprint Bandit Series last Saturday at Superbowl Speedway.
“I was glad to get back with the Sprint Bandit Series for a couple weeks,” he said. “We’re running for points for both ASCS Gulf South and Sprint Bandits so it’s a good split of the schedule.”
A high pill draw lined Lawrence up on the outside of the third row for a heat race.
“We had made it up to fifth in the heat,” he said. “A car spun out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes and go through the infield to miss him and then the driver in fifth got back by me.”
Lawrence rebounded from the incident to place fifth, which lined him up in the 15th starting position for the main event.
“We lost brakes on about Lap 2,” he said. “That made it really hard to get around the bottom. I had to give myself enough time and had to be more careful than other drivers. I think we had a top-three car, but that issue prevented it so we settled for sixth.”
Lawrence overcame his early brake problem and he charged forward to earn his eighth top 10 of the season with the sixth-place finish. He also netted the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
Lawrence, who currently ranks second in the NCRA Sprint Bandit Series championship standings, is slated to race this Friday at Wichita Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the NCRA Sprint Bandit Series.
