Brady Bacon – Roller Coaster Weekend with WoO/USAC!
(Bill W) May 15, 2017 – Brady Bacon was a busy man last weekend. He performed double duty with the World of Outlaws and USAC National Sprint Cars Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, finishing third in the USAC finale there. On Sunday, he finished fifth with the WoO at Tri-State Speedway near Haubstadt, Indiana. Friday, the USAC National Midget point leader will get back behind the wheel of the Frank Manafort Racing #76M at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. The USAC National Sprint Cars will also be in action there, and Brady will pilot the Dooling/Hayward Racing #63 not only Friday, but Saturday at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri.
Things started well for Brady at the wheel of the #63 both nights at Eldora. “We were able to get the car much better at the beginning of the night, and we were quick time both nights,” he says. “We didn’t get quite aggressive enough on Friday (for the feature) and were a little loose (finishing eighth), and then got too tight on Saturday (finishing third in the feature). We are closing in on the window we need to be in and I look forward to putting a whole night together soon.”
With the Outlaws, Brady would qualify 14th quick on Saturday in the Bacon/Marshall #99, but would have a mechanical problem in the feature. “We had some ups and downs at Eldora in the wing car, but had a pretty good balance on Saturday,” he says. “We had wing issue in the feature though.”
Brady has finished second twice in World of Outlaws competition at Tri-State Speedway, and broke while leading another time. Confidence was high heading into Sunday. “We had an awesome car at Haubstadt as usual,” he says. “We went out third from last and set quick time. We were able to win the heat and started on the pole of the Dash.”
That’s where things derailed a bit. “We were able to get the lead, and on the second lap, got tight in three and four,” says Brady. “That got us in the fence and I rolled. The crew worked hard and got everything fixed. We started eighth in the feature.”
Winning was still not out of the question for the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver. “The car was really good,” says Brady. “We were able to get up to fifth and then I spun into the infield. That dropped us to eighth or ninth. We were able to climb back up to finish fifth, and we were right on third and fourth at the end.”
The fast finish was still disappointing for Brady. “I felt bad for my team, that the mistakes I made cost us a shot to win the race,” he says. “I’d like to congratulate Parker Price-Miller on his first World of Outlaws win.”
It will be another busy weekend ahead. “We’re really looking forward to building on our momentum in the midget Friday at Tri-City Speedway,” says Brady. “I’m excited about the #63 sprint car too, so it will be good to get a couple more night in it this weekend.”
