Tankersley Records First Podium Finish of Season During Nolan Wren Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (May 9, 2017) – Channin Tankersley earned his first podium finish of the season last Saturday during the 5th annual Nolan Wren Memorial at Gator Motorplex.

Tankersley teamed up with car owner Bruce Griffith to tackle the ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader last weekend, beginning on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, for the 2nd annual Gene Adamchik Memorial.

“We were in a really fast heat race in the back,” he said. “The track was locked down and we had some really good cars in front of us. That put us in the B Main and we tried some things and got a little better.”

Tankersley finished where he started – seventh – in the heat race before maneuvering from fifth to second place in the B Main. That garnered a transfer into the back of the main event.

“We got really lucky on the start and got around some guys,” he said. “I really made all the passes in the first five laps and then after that the track was follow the leader on the bottom. We had a restart and jumped to the top to get around a couple of guys. I tried to get back down to the bottom and it was either smoke the car in front of me or spin out. When I spun out it laid on its side and ended our race.”

Tankersley had driven from his 16th starting position inside the top 10 when the incident near the midpoint of the race ended the night early. He was credited with a 13th-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Gator Motorplex, where Tankersley drew much better and won a heat race after starting on the pole. That earned a spot in the feature redraw, where Tankersley pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

“The track was rubber down from the start,” he said. “We figured out a way to still be able to pass and run consistent without killing the tires. We got a good start and got around a guy or so. We got some traffic and got around a couple more guys. It was satisfying to run as well as we did because that’s been one of our worst tracks.”

Tankersley methodically worked his way into third place before the checkered flag was waved.

He is scheduled to take the next couple of weeks off before resuming competition on May 26 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas; May 27 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; and May 28 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, for the 15th annual Memorial Day Classic with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
