Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (May 8, 2017) – Tommy Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team are way ahead of where they were a year ago.

Already with a win in 2017, Bryant added a runner-up finish last Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region during the 2nd annual Gene Adamchik Memorial. Bryant was also on his way to possibly another win on Saturday at Gator Motorplex during the 5th annual Nolan Wren Memorial before a part failure ended his night early.

“This year we’ve hit the ground running,” he said. “This is a lot better car and Brad (Benic) has the setups right on. We are fast from hot laps through the feature. Everyone knows we have great speed. We just have to keep the momentum going.”

The action began on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, where Bryant blasted from eighth to a runner-up finish in his heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 4 to start the main event fourth. Bryant worked his way to second and stayed glued to the leader’s rear bumper.

“I got under (Michael Lang) several times, but I’d be in the slick and he’d get traction before me,” he said. “I had a shot at him on the last lap, but got held up in traffic. I thought it was better to race him clean and settle for second than knock him out. I want others to race me that way.”

Bryant looked to be headed for another podium finish the following night at Gator Motorplex. He won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to again make the feature redraw. After drawing the sixth starting position, Bryant raced to third before a tie rod broke, ending his night with a 17th-place result.

“We got a little roughed up on the start and that maybe had something to do with the tie rod breaking,” he said. “I was able to get the car slowed before we hit anything. I can’t complain … the car was right on again.”

Bryant advanced to fifth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings despite skipping multiple races this season.

Right now the Cooper Motorsports team is planning to take a couple of weeks off before competing with the ASCS Gulf South Region in a Memorial Day weekend tripleheader May 26 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas; May 27 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas; and May 28 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, for the 15th annual Memorial Day Classic.
