Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (May 4, 2017) – Austen Wheatley is venturing to his home track this weekend for the next round of Summer Thunder Sprint Series action.
Wheatley, who ranks second in the championship standings with the series, will drive for Doug Rutz this Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
“We’ve won at Skagit before and Doug and I won together earlier this season so we have a lot of confidence going into this weekend,” Wheatley said. “We’ve had some rain in Washington this week so I’m sure the track will be hooked up and fast.”
Wheatley scored his first career win at the track in 2014 and has produced a top-10 result during nine of his last 11 360ci winged sprint car races at the oval. Additionally, he was in contention for his best-ever World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result at Skagit Speedway last September before he was caught up in a crash while running in the top 10 with only a couple of laps remaining.
“We’ve run well at Skagit almost every time out the last few years,” he said. “I don’t get to race there very often anymore so it’s important to put together a good performance in front of our home fans whenever we get the opportunity.”
Wheatley was victorious during the opening Summer Thunder Sprint Series event this season. He has also set quick time during qualifying at both Summer Thunder Sprint Series races this year.
